As businesses with a strong online presence have a 20% higher revenue than those who don’t, it’s no wonder this year’s Tourism Day focuses on digital transformation.

Digital innovation is the name of the game when it comes to building capacity within tourism businesses and tourism businesses will be able to celebrate and network online with like-minded tourism businesses around the globe, no matter where they are located, on World Tourism day thanks to an innovative inaugural Global Tourism Conversation event.

The Queensland Tourism Industry Council (QTIC) Prize for Innovation in Tourism Awards will also be celebrated this Thursday (September 27) when the ‘latest and greatest’ tourism innovations will be revealed.

Tourism Tribe CEO Liz Ward and Global Tourism Conversation creator is delighted to have been invited to the Queensland’s Innovation Awards  panel.

Digital transformation, innovation and tourism awards are some of Liz’s key areas of expertise and she is a regular judge for the annual Queensland Tourism Awards. She has also been a part of QTIC’s mentoring scheme for the past three years, mentoring young, up-and-coming tourism professionals.

Her business Tourism Tribe was a runner-up for the QTIC Prize for Innovation in Tourism, in 2016.

“As CEO of Tourism Tribe, an online community of more than 1,600 businesses around the world and leader in digital technology and coaching for the tourism industry, we take our role within the tourism industry very seriously and welcome any opportunity to contribute ideas that can potentially increase the capacity of the sector,” she said. “Our vision is to help those in tourism have a sustainable business and make a profit doing what they love, no matter where they are located, by making smart use of digital technologies, processes and marketing tools.” add Ward.

  • Businesses with a strong online presence have a 20% higher revenue than those who don’t
  • Of the businesses that exist today, only 60% will exist in 4 years
  • More than 44% of Australian jobs will become digitally redundant

Ms Ward will be joined on the panel by Stewart Moore, founder and CEO of Earthcheck, Pierre Benckendorff, an award-winning researcher at the University of Queensland specialising in visitor behaviour, technology enhanced learning and tourism, and Abbey Blanchfield, marketing and sales manager for Brisbane’s Airtrain and a Young Tourism Leader for the Queensland Government.
